The Lions (3-3-1) are heading in the right direction after a 31-26 win over the New York Giants last weekend. Matthew Stafford was fantastic once again in the win, throwing for 342 yards and three touchdowns. The three scores upped his season total to 16. Stafford’s excellence is a necessity for Detroit, who’s running game has been almost non-existent. They managed just 59 total rushing yards in the victory over the Giants and rank 22nd in the league in overall rushing. Stafford is clearly the star of the show and will be the main reason the Lions have any shot at making the playoffs this season. Unfortunately for them, they just happen to play in a division that features two of the league’s best teams.
Despite Derek Carr airing it out for 285 yards and three touchdowns, the Raiders dropped their second loss in a row last weekend in a 27-24 defeat to the Houston Texans. A poor defensive showing in the fourth quarter cost them what could’ve been a momentum-swinging victory. Now they come into this tough matchup sitting on a 3-4 record and are in danger of slipping out of any potential Wild Card race. The offense has done its part all season, but the defense has been its Achilles heel, ranking 25th in the league in yards allowed per game.
