Personally I have Crawford winning but I wanna hear you guys opinions 67 comments. The fight that Arum would prefer to make is between WBO welterweight champion Crawford (37-0, 28 KOs) and IBF/WBC champ Errol Spence Jr, but it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen.

Sometimes the age-old adage of 'baby don't cry, baby don't get fed' actually works in business.

After causing a massive stir with WBC and IBF Welterweight champion Errol Spence in a Twitter war on Monday, January 6th, current WBO titlist Terence Crawford decided to circumvent any additional and unnecessary malicious tweets by calling the Texas-based fighter directly to discuss a potential unification contest for 2020.

Spence Vs Crawford

In a recent phone interview with 'Tha Boxing Voice' 'streaming podcast, Crawford's head trainer Brian Mcintyre confirmed that his pound for pound fighter did indeed speak with the former Olympian about putting together a blockbuster bout during the 2020 boxing calendar year.

'They sure did...they spoke yesterday,' Bomac stated regarding an alleged phone call between Bud Crawford and Errol Spence Jr. 'They came to terms that they both want the fight, and it should be getting put together in the near future.'

When asked if the unification bout would be negotiated immediately, the always candid fight trainer was very clear on what he hoped would happen this year.

'I'd like to see him (Errol Spence) have a fight first because after Terence beats him, I don't want any excuses to be said that he wasn't 100%.'

According to Mcintyre, both fighters agreed to take on an unnamed opponent before inevitably locking horns in what would be the biggest Welterweight showdown since Mayweather vs. Pacquiao in 2015.

Because 'The Truth' hasn't been in the ring since defeating 'Showtime' Shawn Porter on September 28th, 2019, and was subsequently sidelined after a near-fatal car crash in the DFW area, it makes sense for Errol to pursue a potential unification with current WBA 147 pound champ Manny Pacquiao before stepping in the ring with Crawford during the last quarter of 2020.

Although the popular PBC fighter claims to have been medically cleared to compete in the ring, many fans and media members wonder if we will see the best version of Errol Spence Jr. so soon after experiencing such a traumatic and potentially life-changing incident.

If taking on TC is considered by most to be the greatest possible challenge currently for the 29-year-old combatant, a unification bout with the sport's only eight-division world titlist isn't far behind. A match-up opposite Manny Pacquiao is no tune-up.

Spence will definitely have to be at 100% to unify the packed welterweight division against the two other recognized world champions at 147 pounds.

Before publicly calling out the Desoto, Texas resident on social media, Crawford was rumored to have been interested in a potential fight with former IBF and WBC Welterweight titlist Shawn Porter. After shooting down the rumor, claiming to have no interest in such a match-up, 'Bud' faced heavy scrutiny from fans and media members on several respected periodicals. TC's head trainer expounded on the misreported issue.

'First of all, it's what Terence wants to do. Like Terence always said, he wants the champions. Porter doesn't have a belt anymore, so what's the use of fighting him? Who has the belts? Manny and Spence, so that's who we're going after...those two fighters.'

Unfortunately for Crawford, Senator Pacquiao is who Spence will more than likely be targeting as well. And due to the fact that the Pacman currently has one more fight remaining on his advisory contract with Al Haymon, Spence vs. Pacquiao is a much easier fight to make.

If Crawford wants to fight for some version of a major world title before taking on 'The Truth' later this year, then Alexander Besputin who currently holds the WBA 'Regular' title would be the most logical choice in the interim. The 28-year-old Russian born title holder is currently promoted by Bob Arum and Top Rank Inc, who is fortuitously and coincidently Bud's promoter as well.

'We haven't sat down yet to discuss what's next, but we're sure it's going to be for a title...in April or May, somewhere around there,' stated Brian Mcintyre.

Spence Vs Crawford Date

Spence vs. Crawford is a match-up that's been brewing for quite some time. With hypothetical victories over Manny Pacquiao and Alexander Besputin respectively, the unification bout becomes a massive event that could be staged at AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys, within the year's final quarter.

But all terms must be agreed upon first.

Although both men have indeed agreed to an eventual fight in 2020, the purse split more than likely wasn't discussed. Here's where the biggest problem potentially lies.

Allegedly, Terence Crawford and promoter Top Rank Inc. have tried to enter into an agreement for unification with Al Haymon and Errol Spence Jr., with all previous attempts in vain. According to Bomac, the fight would ultimately have to be for a 50/50 split of the fighter proceeds.

'We've been trying to get Spence in the ring since last year, man. There have been offers sent, but they have their own agenda over there. This is a 50/50 fight, man.'

While most interested parties agree the suggested super fight is indeed a 50/50 endeavor when discussing odds, the current IBF/WBC champion believes he should be entitled to the lion's share of the eventual purse.

To make the fight a reality for 2020, Terence Crawford might have to make this concession. While Spence does boast a more lucrative PPV history with reportedly over 300K purchases in his last two fights, he did give Mikey Garcia a 50/50 split for their stadium appearance in March of 2019. Both men were guaranteed $3 million apiece for their effort in front of a stunning crowd of 47,525 at AT&T Stadium.

Unlike the monetary disparity in the convoluted Anthony Joshua vs. Deontay Wilder situation, any proposed financial split wouldn't be terribly wide. At the most, Crawford would have to concede to a 60/40 split in favor of Errol Spence Jr.

If it makes TC feel better about making the concession, Manny Pacquiao agreed to a 40% share when he fought Floyd Mayweather in their super fight...and Manny Pacquiao is a mainstream superstar.

Hopefully, both fighters will remain true to their word and honor their informal agreement to unify the weight division later this year.

Now that Bob Arum and Al Haymon are working together, it could be the perfect time to make Spence vs. Crawford a reality.
